During the COVID-19 pandemic, there was a huge surge in outdoor fitness as it has proven to not only be a more Covid-safe way to exercise, but also boasts a wealth of other benefits. David Lloyd were quick to realise this and so created their ‘bootcamp-style classes’ designed around a dedicated outdoor facility – The ‘Battlebox’. Each ‘Battlebox’ consisted of external rigging, rope climbing towers and wall-ball targets, as well as internal storage for accessories and attachments to facilitate the wide variety of ‘Battlebox Classes’ that David Lloyd offer, while keeping all equipment secure and protected from the elements when not in use. Our solutions have created a ‘state-of-the-art’ outdoor training facility at each location and has allowed David Lloyd to offer their unique ‘Battlebox Classes’ across more sites. Due to the fast turnaround provided by BeaverFit, it has helped David Lloyd to stay current with the latest fitness trends and requirements, as well as maintaining their brand image, through offering industry-leading facilities. Bridges to Beast Racks: A history of BeaverFit
Taking a look back to where it all began… In 1947 R.S Beaver Ltd, a Steel Fabricator company, is formed, moving to The Old Mill Farm, near Church Stretton. In 2006, Tom Beaver decided to create and build his own training rig, for preparation for the Enduroman Arch to Arc Triathlon, after being unable to find anything similar to his vision elsewhere. From this, Tom saw a key opportunity in the market and sold his first Commander Rig to the British Special Forces. This is where BeaverFit was born. BeaverFit x REORG: Supporting Our Soldiers
At the start of 2020, Beaverfit partnered with REORG, a UK based charity, to aid them in their mission to support personnel who have left active service, through the art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ). CEO and Founder Sam Sheriff, (along with Trustees Mark Ormrod, Tom Hardy and Trent Scanlen) are embarking on an ambitious plan to help thousands of people. When service personnel transition out of the military, they leave behind a life of structure, purpose and camaraderie. For many former service personnel this can be a very difficult time, especially if they are also suffering the after-effects of physical and psychological trauma, which is the case for all too many of them. Royal Marine’s C/Sgt Sam Sheriff started REORG to give drive and purpose to those that suffer this struggle. BeaverFit was born in 2010 through a challenge from the British Military and we have worked closely with them and militaries all over the world, ever since. We chose to support REORG as we are involved so heavily in the training of serving military personnel, we wanted to be a part of supporting those same people, even when they have left. To support our veterans, we manufacture three bespoke BeaverFit | REORG Racks that can be purchased through the REORG website. Garage Rack Home Gym Starter Home Gym Advanced We support by donating a percentage of each purchase. Each Rack is beautifully dual branded, and made bespoke for REORG.
BeaverFit made, fully sustainable Strength and Conditioning Shelter – A step into the future for Bulford Military Base
Bulford Army Base in Salisbury, welcomes the first of many, outdoor Strength and Conditioning Shelters for the British Army. At the beginning of 2021, the British Army released a public tender, requiring a selection of Strength and Conditioning Shelters for camps around the UK. BeaverFit specialise in the design and manufacture of fitness equipment, container gyms and tactical training solutions – making us the strongest candidate in the delivery of this project. This large facility is the peak of innovation, set to introduce a new form of training for the troops that enables them to train in the elements. This ensures that they are mentally and physically prepared for weather variations when out on deployment and helps to avoid musculoskeletal injuries while also boosting their mental adaptation. BeaverFit partnered with ZeroAlpha Solutions to offer solar panels for the shelter, making this solution the first ever fully-sustainable fitness facility owned by the Armed Forces. ‘This is a genuine modern facility, built to provide the troops with what they need to ensure their physical health and wellbeing, both in terms of what we do in the barracks and around the world. This is a real opportunity and a great asset to the British Army.’ – Major General Neil Thorpe As 2021 progresses, we will see an increasing number of BeaverFit Strength and Conditioning Shelters starting their construction, enrolling a variety of progressing soldiers onto the next steps of their health and fitness development. Suicide Awareness Month at BeaverFit UK
People often spend a large portion of their day at a workplace and, in doing so, get to know other employees over time. As a result, they may be in a good position to notice changes in behaviour that could suggest risk of suicide or mental health problems. With our employees spending over 1/3 of their life in a place of work, it is our responsibility to ensure that they are offered support and respect, both physically and mentally. BeaverFit have a dominant presence in the provisions of fitness equipment for the military and so the consideration of suicide prevention and mental health awareness is of utmost importance, with 6,435 veteran adults committing suicide in 2018. For the past 12 years, suicide rates have been consistently higher among veterans than nonveterans. Furthermore, since 2005, the suicide rate has risen faster among veterans than it has for nonveteran adults. BeaverFit UK and BeaverFit North America comprise of a team made up of veterans, ex-sports personnel and civilians – all deserving of support and acknowledgment in their life beyond the workplace. What do we do to support our employees? Here at BeaverFit UK, we boast an environment of warm and welcoming attitudes, a small family – if you will. As the business grows, so does the team… By welcoming movements such as Suicide Awareness Month into the workplace, we have encouraged a handful of staff to become Mental Health First Aid trained, helping us to identify warning signs in the mental wellbeing of our employees. Alongside this, we encourage outdoor exercise with our Monthly Marathon, which allows us to embrace nature, get away from our desks and get to know one another on a personal level – a strategic bonding exercise. This Suicide Awareness Month, our Marketing and HR team have collaboratively approached the movement with the idea of a random act of kindness. They hand-delivered a Suicide Awareness cupcake to each individual team member and educated the team on the signs and what to look out for in their monthly company meeting, whilst also pointing out the Mental Health First Aiders. As a company, it is our responsibility to ensure the mental health and wellbeing of our employees, offering support and guidance in reward of their hard work and dedication. It’s okay, not to be okay. DAMSTRONG TEAM. Outdoor Fitness: Is it taking over the industry?
Following the COVID-19 pandemic, we saw a rise in outdoor exercise, home gyms and banana bread. Now that gyms and sports clubs are on the verge of reopening, BeaverFit are still yet to see a drop in the interest of home gym set ups. Given the opportunity to embrace the great outdoors and adapt to a different form of functional fitness – people have found the benefits of working out from home. Over 42% of people interviewed in the West Midlands, stated that they have saved enough money throughout lockdown to build their own home gym. BeaverFit, global leader in the design and manufacturing of gym equipment and training facilities – have found that people much prefer working out – outside, even in the unpredictable British weather. Outdoor fitness also has a greater effect on mental and physical well-being, as well as being rated considerably more restorative compared to indoor exercise. This is due to the element of nature being scientifically proven to reduce emotional and physiological stress. So, what can your gym do to improve member retention? Taking the industry by storm with innovation and forward thinking is The Shrewsbury Club. In late 2020, BeaverFit installed two modern FOB lockers with an overhead canopy and conventional gym flooring – this has given The Shrewsbury Club the ability to offer their members an outdoor fitness facility, prior to the official reopening of gyms and facilitators. Increasing their membership enquiries and creating extra value for all current and new members. This creative outdoor setup has provided The Shrewsbury Club with a facility to host all day exercise classes, no matter the weather. Alongside this, there is a safe and secure storage unit to keep all necessary equipment needed to host these outdoor classes. To make an enquiry about setting up your own outdoor fitness set up, please email Chris Pike at [email protected]– or download our commercial brochure here.
