What university gyms need to attract Gen Z

Gen Z, now the largest generation according to Les Mills’ ‘What do Gen Z want from a gym?’ report, have unique expectations when it comes to fitness. Unlike previous generations, they don’t want to stick to just one type of workout – they want variety, flexibility and a fun environment that keeps them coming back. According to Les Mills, 34% of Gen Z students prefer a wide range of equipment, with 31% love having different ways to workout. So, what are the key expectations clubs must meet if they want to win their business? Wide range of equipment – Gen Z wants plenty of options when it comes to equipment, this includes not just the basics like weights and cardio machines, but also specialised gear for functional fitness, such as kettlebells, resistance bands, and battle ropes. This variety lets members personalise their workouts. Different ways to work out – Having diverse workout options keeps things fresh. Group classes are a big draw for this generation, whether it’s high-intensity interval training (HIIT), yoga, or even dance. Rotating class schedules allow them to try new workouts and stay engaged. How Cheltenham Ladies’ College sets the standard Cheltenham Ladies’ College recently revamped its gym, keeping Gen Z’s needs in mind. They added a variety of equipment, from functional fitness zones to strength areas, their gym now offers diverse classes, along with social spaces and stretching zones for recovery. By focusing on variety, flexibility, and a welcoming atmosphere, Cheltenham Ladies’ College has created a model fitness space that aligns perfectly with Gen Z’s needs – setting a strong example for other university gyms to follow. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9MnswAzyy4 I have a question 🙋  Whatever your question, our dedicated team is here to assist you. Enhancing soldier readiness with the BeaverDome

The British Army has always been at the forefront of innovation and development when it comes to enhancing the physical training and overall readiness of its soldiers. The latest addition to their arsenal is the BeaverFit BeaverDome, a state-of-the-art facility designed to revolutionise the training experience. The BeaverDome, coupled with the bespoke outdoor training rig, offers a diverse range of training options with the fully customisable interior. Utilising a range of equipment from BeaverFit Beast Racks, pull-up bars, sleds, climbing ropes, and a custom track, the soldiers can engage in a variety of challenging exercises that target strength, agility, endurance. This versatility ensures that soldiers can adapt to the physical demands of real-world scenarios effectively. The BeaverDome and outdoor training rig have been meticulously designed to provide soldiers with the means to engage in rigorous physical training, offering a wide range of challenging exercises and functional training equipment that target various aspects of fitness, ultimately leading to improved overall physical preparedness and enhanced combat effectiveness for our troops. With the ability to incorporate cardio-intensive activities such as running, circuit training, and interval training into their workout routine, the soldiers develop greater stamina, allowing them to sustain physical exertion for longer periods, which is vital in combat situations that require prolonged effort and resilience. However, strengthening the major muscle groups not only improves physical performance but also reduces the risk of injuries during demanding tasks in the field. Recovery and rehabilitation are of paramount importance within the military, as they play a crucial role in maintaining health, well-being, and operational readiness. The physical demands and high-stress environments that soldiers often face can result in injuries, fatigue, and mental strain. According to the Ministry of Defence’s annual health and safety report, as much as “61% of injuries occur in the troops’ training”, and if a serious enough injury, you may not be able to effectively serve during your contract, the military may choose to medically separate you instead. The BeaverDome’s modular and customisable design offers a unique advantage by allowing for the integration of recovery and rehabilitation rooms within its facilities. The BeaverDome and outdoor training rig go beyond conventional fitness facilities, offering soldiers the opportunity to engage in rigorous physical training. The combination of challenging exercises and functional equipment contributes to improvements in strength, endurance, flexibility, and overall fitness levels. By utilising these facilities regularly, soldiers can optimise their physical preparedness, ensuring they are ready to face the demanding and dynamic nature of their duties, ultimately enhancing their combat effectiveness. BeaverFit awarded Scottish Police tender, in support of the CopStrong programme

Police Scotland’s commitment to operational fitness and injury prevention led to the development of the CopStrong programme – with the aim to enhance the officers fitness levels, reduce the risk of injury, and improve their performance on duty. However, the existing fitness facility was lacking the space and equipment required for effective group training and strength and conditioning sessions. “CopStrong is the Police Scotland functional strength and conditioning programme. It is designed to be used by officers and staff to obtain and maintain operational fitness in order to reduce the chance of injury and improve work performance.” – CopStrong Strength and Conditioning Programme Realising the limitations of their current set-up, Police Scotland took proactive measures to maximise their fitness space. Understanding the critical importance of their officer’s fitness and mental health, they awarded the tender to BeaverFit. BeaverFit designed, delivered and installed the 20ft Performance Locker, complete with modular, integrated internal storage, and external rigging, compatible with all BeaverFit attachments to amplify group training sessions. By expanding and reconfiguring their fitness space with the 20ft Performance Locker, they increased the functional area, allowing for broader group training opportunities. BeaverFit partnered with Physical Company, who supplied a full 360 solution to support the CopStrong programme effectively. Not only providing a designated fitness area that utilises an unused space, but that also incorporates training accessories and equipment with the goal of accelerating their learning curve in operational fitness.     The optimisation of space and specialised equipment not only addressed the immediate requirements of the CopStrong programme but also laid the groundwork for a sustainable and evolving fitness infrastructure. What are the environmental benefits of modular infrastructure over conventional construction techniques?

According to research conducted by University of Cambridge and Edinburgh Napier University academics, modular construction emits 45% less carbon than traditional methods because units are completed off-site in a controlled assembly line environment and taken to site in one delivery. It means that modular buildings require fewer carbon-intensive products like concrete and steel, and less transport for on-site workers and material deliveries. BeaverFit, industry leaders in the design and manufacture of modular outdoor fitness facilities, pledged to ensure that up to 96% of their modular builds are made entirely of recycled materials and renewable energy. Starting with the fully self-sufficient Strength and Conditioning Shelter at Bulford Barracks military base, this was a step into the future for the Field Army. BeaverFit partnered with ZeroAlpha Solutions to offer solar panels for the shelter, making this solution the first ever fully-sustainable fitness facility owned by the Armed Forces. “This is a genuine modern facility, built to provide the troops with what they need to ensure their physical health and wellbeing, both in terms of what we do in the barracks and around the world. This is a real opportunity and a great asset to the British Army.” – Major General Neil Thorpe The outdoor fitness set-up for the University of Edinburgh is highly sustainable in their use of custom-branded ISO containers. The University has maximised their offering to their students by utilising their otherwise unused space. Installed on the 100m sprint track between Peffermill’s two international water-based hockey pitches, the Peffermill Outdoor Gym offers multiple functional fitness stations and an array of premium equipment. “Our exciting new Outdoor Gym provision at Peffermill serves as a beacon for innovation in sports conditioning, but also what can be achieved through the power of partnership. University of Sport and Exercise is thrilled to join forces with market leaders PLAE and Beaverfit in making this hugely exciting gym venture come alive – our Peffermill users will love it.” – Jim Aitken MBE, Director of Sport + Exercise, University of Edinburgh BeaverFit has a subsidiary firm called BeaverFit Special Operations Equipment that provides law enforcement and the MOD with modular, containerised, and deployable tactical training facilities. Offering a range of ISO and Modular Armouries from low-security storage to Government MFES approved and blast resistant. These portable solutions offer the highest level of protection in an easily relocatable and deployable system. Manufactured out of an ISO shipping container, our easily relocatable storage container solutions limit the construction costs and reduce the need for anchors or groundwork due to their semi-permanent location. As a part of our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy, BeaverFit creates modular infrastructures that can be relocated, repurposed and reused multiple times, enabling us to supply some of the most ecological facilities that support climate control and lower our environmental impact. Our modular solutions are more environmentally friendly than conventional construction techniques due to the limited construction costs and the ability to reduce the need for anchors or groundworks, this means that less off-site work is needed, reducing travel and air pollution.
